What do the two strings of black beads in the mangalsutra represent?


1. Mangalsutra

As per Hindu Dharma, mangalsutra is an ornament of a woman denoting her married status. Each person makes a mangalsutra for the bride as per his capacity. If it is not possible to make a mangalsutra with a cord of gold or silver, they make it by stringing black beads in a thread.

1.1 Importance of Mangalsutra

  • Due to the mangalsutra the woman remains conscious of Dharma, duty and rules. Wearing mangalsutra is an important conduct for a married woman. This is called code of Righteousness for women. Due to this the woman does not indulge in wanton behaviour and her conduct remains ideal.
  • Due to the mangalsutra the woman and others are conscious of her married status. Mangalsutra is a marital bondage. Its main objective is that the woman should remember this sacred bondage and there should not be any immoral behaviour on her part. That others should also be conscious that the woman wearing a mangalsutra is a married woman and she should be respected properly is also an objective of the mangalsutra.
  • Due to the mangalsutra the consciousness of the husband in the form of Shiva remains constantly awakened in the woman.
  • Mangalsutra is symbolic of Shiva and Shakti. In this, gold is in the form of Shakti and the structure of stringed black beads is in the form of Shiva.
  • Mangalsutra is an ornament that attracts Divine Principle in highest proportion. In the mangalsutra both the cups are empty from one side and are raised from the other. The mangalsutra is worn facing the empty side to her body. The Divine Principle is attracted in the voids of the cups in higher proportion than any other ornaments.
  • Through the mangalsutra the woman gains Energy of Desire, Action and Knowledge. The mangalsutra is a link that provides Shakti in the form of the Absolute Fire Element (Tej) to the woman to actually perform a task.
Sattvik Mangalsutra


In the left part of the mangalsutra there is flow of Energy of Desire, in the central part of Energy of Action and in the right part of Energy of Knowledge.

From the mangalsutra the Desire, Action and Knowledge Energies are also emitted.

With the help of the Desire, Action and Knowledge energies, it becomes easy for a woman to proceed towards Nirgun Principle.

  • Due to the mangalsutra and kantha-mani the Vishuddha-chakra remains constantly awakened. One of the types of mangalsutra is Kanthamani mangalsutra. The gold bead stringed in its centre is called Kanthamani. It is near the Vishuddha-chakra. It is also called Muhurtamani.

    The waves of the Absolute Fire Principle (Tej-tattva) of the Universe are attracted to the kantha-mani worn by the woman around the neck.

    Due to these waves, the Vishuddha-chakra constantly remains awakened.

    Nowadays it is customary to remove the Muhurtamani worn around the bride’s neck 16 days after the marriage. Kanthamani is considered a form of Shiva and hence it is symbolic of the sense of detachment of the woman. When the energy of Anahat-chakra flows towards Vishuddha-chakra, it merges in the awakened Vishuddha-chakra by touching the Kanthamani.

1.2 Structure of mangalsutra with a kantha-mani and the gold cups

The length of the mangalsutra should be such that it reaches the Anahat-chakra or the centre of the chest. As the length of the mangalsutra is up to the Anahat-chakra, due to the sattvikta in the mangalsutra the increased raja-guna in the woman is reduced. As a result, the attitude of detachment is generated in her. With this it becomes possible for the woman to dwell in the present constantly.

Answer to subtle experiment: One feels good by looking at the mangalsutra in picture ‘A’. This mangalsutra has a sattvik design. One feels distressed by looking at the mangalsutra in picture ‘B’. This mangalsutra has a demonic design.

According to the principle of Spirituality that, ‘Word, touch, form, taste, fragrance and the Divine Principle associated with them co-exist’, due to the sattvik design of the mangalsutra shown in the photograph ‘A’, sattvik vibrations are generated. The sattvikta of the woman wearing such types of mangalsutra is increased because of which his distress by the negative energies is reduced. Contrary to this, due to the demonic design of the mangalsutra in photograph ‘B’ negative vibrations are generated. Due to the negative vibrations, it becomes easy for the sorcerers (mantriks) to acquire black energy. It is evident from this that the structure and design of a mangalsutra should be sattvik.

1.3 Why is the empty part of the central cups of the mangalsutra placed towards the Anahat-chakra?

In the centre of the mangalsutra there are two cups. The cups should be round and there should not be any design on its front part.

  • Round shape is associated with zero, that is, with the Brahman consisting of void. The ability to absorb and emit the waves of specific level as per the need of the person is more in the round shape compared to the other shapes.
  • Round shape is symbolic of Energy of Knowledge.
  • Round shape is associated with the sattva-guna in the form of Shiva-Shakti.
  • The central point of the round shape provides waves in the form of striking Shakti (Energy) whereas the raised part is associated with Brahman in the form of Shiva.

At both sides of each cup there are two round beads of gold. This structure is associated with the Energy of Knowledge.

The subtle effect of the structure is:

  • The waves of emotions are activated in the Anahat-chakra of the woman.
  • The waves of Energy of Knowledge are attracted towards the circular figure of the voids of the cups of the mangalsutra.
  • The waves of Knowledge assimilate the waves of the woman’s emotions.

By this process the woman’s actions (karmas) become non-actions (akarmas), that is, the law of action-and-fruit is not applicable to the karmas done by the woman because of which the awareness of doership of the woman reduces.

The four petal flowers above the cups of the mangalsutra:

  • Above every cup of the mangalsutra, there is a figure of four petal flower. This is associated with the Action energy.
  • The vibrations of the woman’s Energy of Action solidify in the round beads and are in the forefront in functioning as per the need.
  • It helps generate a protective sheath near the Anahat-chakra of the woman.

1.4 Why should there be no design on the raised front part of the cups?

If there is no design on the front part of the cups, there is no restriction on the ability of the structure to absorb and emit the Absolute Fire Element (Tej-tattva) in gold. Similarly the gold cups and the bead of the mangalsutra being design-free, its ability to absorb and emit the Chaitanya in the Universe increases. Hence, the woman is protected from the attacks of the negative energies.

1.5 Why are two strings of black beads present in the mangalsutra?

The two strands of black beads of mangalsutra symbolise Shiva and Shakti. From the task performed by the union of Shiva and Shakti, one gains fruit in the form of Chaitanya. This gain of fruit is depicted in the form of the central gold cups that join the strands. The two strands of mangalsutra symbolise duality. Duality means continuity of task. The two strands of the beads are used from this perspective also. The rectangular shaped void created in one part of the two strands of black beads attracts the waves of Energy of Desire. The nine black beads stringed in each part of the strand symbol-ise the nine forms of the Primal Energy (Adishakti). The black beads stringed in the gold cord collect the negative vibrations of the attack of negative energies on the body of the woman from time to time and destroy them.

There are seven parts of nine black beads each in both the strands of the mangalsutra. In order to demonstrate these parts, four gold round-shaped beads are arranged in a square shape as a central link. With this the Shakti Principle in the woman remains in a constantly activated state and it is protected from the attacks by negative energies.

1.6 Importance of structure of mangalsutra

In the mangalsutra there are two gold cups in the centre, one gold bead at their each side and then black beads are strung. In each of the two strands of the mangalsutra nine beads followed by two gold beads are strung. Due to the black beads strung in the mangalsutra the woman is harmed to some extent.

  • Waves of black energy associated with the Absolute Earth and Water element are attracted to the black beads of the mangalsutra.
  • A cover of these waves is generated around the body of the woman.
  • Through the black beads waves of black energy are emitted in the atmosphere.

Due to the covering of black energy waves there is distress like pain, giddiness, restlessness etc. Considering the harm, one may wonder why the black beads should be used. Though there is 30 percent harm due to the black beads strung in the mangalsutra, there is 70 percent benefit also. The reason for this is that mangalsutra is beaded with a thin wire of gold. The gold wire destroys the distressing vibrations present in the Universe through its Energy of the Absolute Fire element (Tej-Shakti).

The reason for the destruction of distressing vibrations by the Tej-Shakti of gold: The use of black beads and gold in mangalsutra is akin to amulet, that is, talisman. For alleviation of distress by negative energies, an amulet or a talisman is worn around the neck. The black thread of the amulet attracts the black energy and the Holy ash in the amulet destroys it. In a mangalsutra black beads are used in place of black thread and gold in the place of Holy ash. When a woman with more than 50 percent spiritual level wears a mangalsutra the ability of the gold in it to emit the Absolute Fire Element (Tej-tattva) remains awakened.

  • The structure of the cups and the beads strung on both sides of the mangalsutra are associated with the woman’s Energy of procreation. One cup and the beads at its sides make a figure of a triangle. This figure keeps the woman’s Energy of procreation continuously awakened. Energy of procreation is the Energy spreading enthusiasm continuously in the entire Universe through the medium of Creation. Thereby, she constantly remains in a loving mode.
  • The round shape of the mangalsutra awakens the woman’s Central channel (Sushumna-nadi). The elliptical shape of the mangalsutra is associated with the unmanifest Energy of Action of Srivishnu. This shape awakens the Central channel (Sushumna-nadi) of the woman. Hence, it helps the prakruti in the form of woman to merge with Shiv in the form of man. As per the design of the mangalsutra, its effect is expressed either at the Sagun or Nirgun level.

In the mangalsutra of Sagun design, in each thread after every nine black beads, two gold beads are strung. For the woman wearing a mangalsutra of Sagun design to acquire its complete benefit, her minimum spiritual level has to be 30 percent.

In the mangalsutra of Nirgun design, only black beads are strung and gold beads are not present. For the woman wearing a mangalsutra of Nirgun design to acquire its complete benefit, her minimum spiritual level has to be 50 percent.

Importance of use of mangalsutra of Sagun and Nirgun level by a woman affected by negative energy:

If there is distress due to sorcerers (mantriks), that is, the powerful demonic energies of the Hell, the woman can wear mangalsutra either of Sagun or Nirgun design. Women of more than 60 percent spiritual level should wear mangalsutra of Nirgun level for protection from the mantriks of the sixth or seventh Hell.

1.7 Benefits of gold beads strung in the mangalsutra

  • Waves of the Absolute Fire Element (Tej-tattva) in the Universe are attracted to the gold beads of the mangalsutra.
  • Due to the black beads, waves of black energy are attracted which are disintegrated by the Tej-tattva waves emitted by the gold.
  • A protective sheath is generated around the woman’s body.
  • The Sun-channel (Surya-nadi) of the woman remains in an activated state because of which the Energy Principle (Shakti-tattva) inherent in it is awakened.

Due to disintegration of the black energy attracted to the black beads, the woman is less affected by evil eye. With this the importance of gold in destroying the negative vibrations with Tej-Shakti is evident.

1.8 Why do we say that mangalsutra has lost its sanctity, if it breaks?

Many a times, a mangalsutra can break without any apparent reason. Breaking of a mangalsutra is a bad omen. On breaking the beads get charged with black energy, that is, due to the black energy their weight increases. Sattvikta of the beads is lost. From this sense, the action or act of breaking of a mangalsutra amounts to it losing its sanctity.

Effect of breaking of a mangalsutra without any reason: Breaking of a mangalsutra is a symptom of severe distress arising out of black magic performed on a woman. As a result, there is a possibility that the woman will have fatal thoughts of self-harm, suicide, death in an accident, killing someone etc. In this process, the mantriks kill the husband with black magic and transmit black energy on the wife too. The mantriks make a replica doll of the woman and transmit black energy on it through some ritual. Then distressing vibrations are also transmitted into the objects associated with the woman, which are attracted by the black beads of the mangalsutra. As a result, the mangalsutra breaks. Only God or Guru’s grace can protect from all such distress.

Spiritual experience: Breaking of the new small mangalsutra within fifteen days and the bigger mangalsutra too eight days later: On the night of 12th November 2008, her small mangalsutra suddenly broke and the beads scattered. This mangalsutra with a small muhurtamani was earlier strung in a thread and just fifteen days earlier, she had got it strung in gold. She wondered if this had happened due to the distress caused by negative energies ! Thereafter, on 19th November 2008, the bigger mangalsutra around her neck also broke. This example validates the precept that ‘The mangalsutra can break due to distress caused by negative energies’. – A seeker.

1.9 Why Scriptures do not allow widows to wear a mangalsutra?

There are two chief reasons for this.

  • Waves / Vibrations associated with the husband’s desire are present in the mangalsutra, due to which the subtle body of the deceased husband can get trapped: Waves associated with the husband’s desire are present in the mangalsutra. After the death of the husband, some women continue to wear mangalsutra as fashion. Thus, with the help of the vibrations associated with the husband’s desires, his subtle body can get trapped.
  • Onward journey of the subtle body of the husband is obstructed: Looking at the mangalsutra reminds the woman of her husband and his subtle body has to return to the Earth region. Hence, the onward journey of the subtle body of the husband is obstructed.

‘So what if my husband is no more?’, with this thought intellectual women nowadays continue to wear the mangalsutra even after they are widowed. This act harms the woman as well as her deceased husband at the spiritual level. Hence, one should determinedly abide by religious Conduct. Mangalsutra is a marital bond. Its objective is to remind the woman of this bond and restrain her from behaving as per her own wishes.

1.10 Why do men not have to wear a mangalsutra?

Every Conduct for men and women has been propounded with a specific objective. If wearing a mangalsutra is Dharma for women, wearing a Janeu (sacred thread) is Dharma for men. On this, some people may question why is there no custom for men to wear a mangalsutra?

Since in Karmakanda, man is recognized as a father-figure, the possibility of adultery by him is less. The nature of men is basically strong, determined and conducive for leadership. Hence, in the performance of Karmakanda, the man is recognised as a father-figure. Due to the authority as a father, the possibility adultery is less. In society men are more adulterous than women. If this be so, why is it said that the possibility of adultery by man is less ?

Compared to a woman, a man’s attitude is less emotional, more introverted and rational. So there is less possibility of his being adulterous / wilful. Yet various Conducts have been prescribed for him in Hindu Dharma. In Kaliyug, men and women are equally adulterous. In this situation, what should men do to acquire the same benefits as that of wearing a mangalsutra? The answer is that when the man carries out his father-figure duties and inculcates an attitude of listening to others, it will foster unity in the family. Holy thread (Janeuu) worn by him will remind him of his father-figure duties.

From the above table one can realise that the benefits of wearing a gold chain are more. Many women wear a gold chain instead of a mangalsutra. Some women wear a mangalsutra in which there are two cups, with beads strung on both sides.

3. Why is a gold chain not used in place of a mangalsutra?

The black beads in the mangalsutra contain waves of the Absolute Earth (Pruthvi-tattva) and Absolute Water (Apa-tattva) elements and the gold beads contain waves of the Absolute Fire element (Tej-tattva). With the union of these waves, Raja-Tama-dominant waves associated with inferior negative energies are eliminated from their origin. Hence, an average woman who wears a mangalsutra gets the ability to tolerate the war-like effects of destruction of Raja-Tama-dominant waves.

However, the Tej element dominant waves emitted by the gold affect the superior negative energies. An average woman does not possess the ability to tolerate their attacks. Hence, there is a possibility of distress to the woman. Therefore, instead of a chain, it is beneficial for a sensitive woman to wear a mangalsutra. Unmarried women and men also wear a gold chain. They too can experience distress, such as increase in body-heat.



How are necklaces with specific design and length more beneficial?


1. Necklace

The functioning of the waves associated with spiritual emotion and emotions takes place in the middle of Vishuddha-chakra and Anahat-chakra respectively. For all people to benefit, necklaces that are short and long in length, are available everywhere in larger numbers. Some main types of necklaces are:

  • Mohanmala: This is made of gold. Its length is upto the middle of the chest.
  • Lakshmihar: This is also made of gold. Gold coins with a portrait of Sri Lakshmidevi engraved on them are strung in a Lakshmihar.
  • Motimala: This is made of pearls.

Subtle effects on a woman who wears a necklace are:

  • The necklace made of gold, with a sattvik design, attracts a flow of Bliss (Anand) to it. A spiral of Bliss is created and activated in the pendant by this flow. In each small leaf of the design in the necklace, a spiral of Bliss is created and activated. From these spirals, particles of Bliss are transmitted in the body of the woman and in the environment.

  • Due to the gold and the sattvik design, a flow of Chaitanya is also attracted to the necklace. A spiral of Manifest (Sagun) Chaitianya is created and activated in the pendant of the necklace. A spiral of Chaitanya is emitted by the pendant. A protective sheath of Chaitanya is created around the necklace. Semi-circular waves of Chaitanya are emitted by the necklace. A protective sheath of Chaitanya is created around the woman wearing the necklace.
  • Divine Energy (Shakti) is experienced from each small leaf of the necklace. Due to this, spirals of Saviour Energy (Tarak Shakti) are created and activated.

  • The Vishuddha, Anahat and Swadhishthan chakras in the woman are protected. These chakras obtain Chaitanya from the necklace. Due to the Chaitanya of the necklace, the frontal portion of the woman from the throat to the stomach is protected.
  • Ego of the woman reduces. Due to the necklace, the woman’s neck bows a little. This assists in reducing her ego and increasing humility in her.

Depending on the length of the necklace and the design on it, vibrations of each necklace differ. Having a specific design as per the length of the necklace provides more benefit.

1.1 Necklace of length upto the Vishuddha-chakra

A necklace associated with Vishuddha-chakra, with a circular design is sattvik; because, sattvik waves of knowledge are attracted to the shape of circular designs. Some examples are – Kanthi, Thushi, Natai, Guluband etc.

1.2 Necklace of length upto the Anahat-chakra



A necklace associated with Anahat-chakra should have a petal-shaped design. The Anahat-chakra is awakened by the touch of the waves in the form of Energy of Action (Kriya-Shakti), attracted to the shape of the petals. Mohanmaal, Pohehar and Bormala are some examples of necklaces with a petal-shaped design, associated with and reaching upto the Anahat-chakra . Other examples of necklaces reaching upto the Anahat-chakra are Shrimanthar, Jondhalepot etc.

Spiritual experience regarding effects of the sattvik ornament, Mohanmaal: While wearing the Mohanmaal around the neck, I had a vision of Srikrushna. I felt that the Chaitanya of the mala was flowing down from one chakra to another. At the same time, I felt good sensations at my Brahmarandhra. Spiritual experience upon wearing a Lakshmihar: One day in 2008, I wore a Lakshmihar around the neck. When the necklace touched my sari, I felt that the Deity Principle had touched me. 1.3 Necklace of length upto the Manipur-chakra

Manipur-chakra is also called Nabhi-chakra, since it is at the navel (Nabhi). It will be apparent from this, that these necklaces are of length upto the navel. Chandrahar and Suryahar are two examples of necklaces of length upto the Manipur-chakra.

1.5 String of pearls

String of pearls is worn by both, women and men. Like the gold ornaments, pearl necklaces too are of different lengths. Pearl necklaces of different lengths are worn, such as around the neck, that is, at the level of Vishuddha-chakra upto the chest, that is, at the level of Anahat-chakra and upto the navel, that is, at the level of Manipur-chakra.

It is evident from the above table that by wearing a string of pearls of length upto the Vishuddha-chakra one gets the benefit of vibrations of Bliss (Anand) and Peace (Shanti) in a larger proportion. If the length of the string of pearls is upto the Anahat-chakra or upto the Manipur-chakra, then one gets the benefit of the vibrations of Chaitanya in a larger proportion.

When a woman affected by negative energies wears a string of pearls, the black energy of the mantrik in her reduces. That is, spiritual healing takes place on the woman due to the string of pearls.

1. Ornaments worn by a woman on the hands

Some main types of ornaments are:

  • Bahubandha worn on the arm.
  • Bangles worn on the wrists. There are various types of bangles, such as glass-bangles, gold-bangles, patali, toda etc.
  • An ornament worn on a finger is the ring. Generally, it is worn on the anamika or the ring finger.

2. Bahubandha (keyur)

Since this ornament is worn on the ‘Bahu’, that is, the arm, it is called a Bahubandha. This is made of gold or silver. It is studded with precious stones. Bahubandhas studded with pearls are also available. Bahubandha is also known as keyur, bahubhusha, bhujaband and vanki. Wearing these ornaments is important for various reasons.

  • The hand gets the energy to function. Waves of Devi Principle are active in the Bahubandha. These waves are absorbed by the arm and are spread to the whole hand.
  • Through the Bahubandha, the woman obtains the Saviour (Tarak) or Destroyer (Marak) energy of Sri Saraswatidevi as per the requirement. Radiant waves are emitted by the shiny precious stones studded in the Bahubandha. These waves match the Energy of Action (Kriya-Shakti) of Sri Saraswatidevi. They impart coolness to women who are not affected by negative energies and heat to women affected by negative energies. The seven rays emitted by the Bahubandha are symbolic of the Energy of Sri Saraswatidevi, active in Saviour or Destroyer form.
  • The sound (Nad) emitted from the Bahubandha functions in varying proportion, depending on the spiritual emotion (Bhav) of the woman and makes her aware of her true nature. The sound emitted from the Bahubandha provides Divine Energy (Shakti), Divine consciousness (Chaitanya), Bliss (Anand) and Peace (Shanti) to the woman who wears it. The three small bells attached to the Bahubandha symbolise God’s Energy of Will (Ichha-Shakti), Action (Kriya-Shakti) and Knowledge (Dnyan-Shakti). 3.2 Benefits of sound waves created by glass bangles

  • Due to the subtle weapons emitted from the sound waves of the bangles, the motor organs of the woman are protected.

Some women wear shiny green colour bangles with designs on them, while some women wear such bangles without any designs on them. Raja-Tama-dominant vibrations are emitted by these bangles. As a result, lustful thoughts or thoughts of fame are created in the woman’s mind. Due to the golden designs on the bangles, obstacles are created in the absorption of Divine Principle in the bangles. Even in the bangles without designs, the Divine Principle is attracted only in a small proportion due to their shiny colour. 3.6 Reason for the sudden cracking or breaking of bangles

Through the glass bangles, spiritual healing takes place on a woman. In this, women who are affected by negative energies have to face various kinds of distress.

Broken bangles create distressing and impactful vibrations. There is a possibility of negative energies getting attracted to such bangles. As a result, the possibility of distress of negative energies to the woman also increases.

Spiritual experience of a seeker, when her bangles developed cracks: On 27th September 2008, a bangle in the hand of a lady-seeker broke unexpectedly. In the same manner, on 29th September 2008, one more bangle of the lady-seeker broke. The lady-seeker conducted a subtle analysis of this occurrence. She realised that due to breaking of the bangle, black energy was entering the void between the bangle and the hand. The entire bangle was charged with black energy. The black energy began to slowly flow in an upward direction on the hands and then spread to the entire body. The lady-seeker became restless. Her restlessness reduced only after removing the bangle.

From this spiritual experience of the lady-seeker, it is evident that the negative energies gain control over the mind and intellect of a woman who wears a cracked bangle. As a result, distress like experiencing restlessness, negative thoughts entering the mind etc. may take place.

When a woman wears a bangle, a kind of void is created around her wrist. Due to this void, this medium is helpful in spiritual healing through the Absolute Ether Element (Akash-tattva), that is, the healing at the Nirgun level. Metals like gold, silver, copper are used for making ornaments. By using metals for making ornaments one can derive various benefits.

Physical and psychological benefits: By adorning the ornaments made from metals one has physical and psychological benefits like reduction in the body heat, enhancement in beauty etc. For example by adorning copper ornaments the body heat reduces. By adorning gold ornaments beauty is enhanced.

Spiritual benefits: From ancient times for protection from negative energies and acquiring grace of Deities metals are used for making ornaments. For example, kids were adorned with copper anklets. Every metal used for making ornaments has is own special feature which is beneficial from the viewpoint of making ornaments.

2.1 Adorning gold ornaments in the upper part of the body

In the ancient tradition of adorning ornaments, an important point is that gold ornaments are adorned above the waist. The spiritual reason for this is that gold ornaments have predominance of the Absolute Fire Principle. Through this one is protected from the negative energies active in the direction 8 to 10 feet upwards from the ground. Also, due to gold the negative energies have distress.

Example explaining this point: Before listening to music, the socerers (mantriks) from Hell manifested in seekers removing the gold ornaments: On 16th November 2006, to study the effect of Indian and Western music on the sorcerers (Mantriks) from Hell, that is, powerful negative energies, present in the seekers severely distressed by negative energies, various experiments of sound (Nada) were done. At that time, before the experiment the mantriks got the ornaments adorned by seekers removed. The reason for this is that gold ornaments associated with Tej-tatva effectively absorb and emit Chaitanya associated with the Tej-tattva. To prevent the effect of this Chaitanya, the mantriks removed the ornaments in advance. Due to the high speed Tej-tattva present in sound (Nada), the Tej-tattva inherent in the ornaments gets activated. With the disintegration of the black energy in them, there is an effect on the body too.

Hence, as far as possible the mantriks try to ensure that the gold ornaments do not touch the body. Nada functions at an expansive level because of which its effect begins at both Sagun and Nirgun level at the same time.

3. Importance of silver ornaments

It is best if the ornaments are of gold. If it is not possible to adorn gold ornaments, then silver ornaments should be adorned. Also, some ornaments are made only from silver, for example anklets. Silver ornaments primarily include anklets, chain, thick bangles, rings etc. The person adorning silver ornaments also gains Divine Chaitanya. Generally, silver ornaments are adorned below the waist.

3.1 Spiritual science underlying adorning silver ornaments below the waist

Silver has more ability to absorb the raja predominant, Chaitanya laden desire frequencies. By adorning silver ornaments below the waist, the woman is protected from the distressing Absolute Earth and Water Element frequencies emitted from Hell. In this way by adorning silver anklets, the negative energies cannot enter a woman’s body easily. Similarly she is protected by all the ornaments like griddle, toe rings etc. Being ignorant about this importance, nowadays women have thoughts like not adorning bangles, removing Mangalasutra while sleeping and actually removing the other ornaments around the neck. In Astrology, for averting present and future suffering due to the position of planets (Grahapida), adorning ornaments studded with various precious stones especially a ring is prescribed. 4.2 Effects of adorning artificial ornaments

With changing times, due to insecurity, many women adorn artificial ornaments. Others elucidate soe distress like rashes due to ornaments. But in reality, the women are unaware that it is the act of negative energies. Due to artificial ornaments, women are not able to absorb the Deity Principle present in the environment because of which it becomes easy for the negative energies to attack them. Bearing in mind this thought, as far as possible one should adorn gold and silver ornaments itself.

4.3 Importance of spiritual emotion (Bhav) when adorning ornaments

Only the Hindu culture advocates adorning ornaments on the head, neck, ear, nose, waist, feet that is the complete body. Hindu Dharma advocates that on some occasions women should adorn special ornaments. For example, on festivals, marriage etc, women should adorn an armlet and girdle. For gaining spiritual benefit of ornaments, it is not necessary to adorn all ornaments. As per one’s financial condition some selected ornaments can suffice. Reason for this is that instead of which and how many ornaments one adorns, the underlying spiritual emotion (Bhav) is important. If a person has Bhav towards the adorned ornament only then that ornament through the associated Deity Principle can bestow maximum benefit.

Why are ornaments required to be purified regularly?


1. Choice of the ornaments as per personality

A person chooses the ornaments according to his personality. A sattvik person chooses sattvik ornaments, a rajasik person chooses rajasik ornaments and a tamasik person chooses tamasik ornaments. Looking at sattvik ornaments, one experiences Bhav, Chaitanya, bliss and serenity. Looking at rajasik ornaments, one experiences Energy, whereas one feels distress looking at tamasik ornaments.

2. Sattvik and tamasik ornaments

If the ornaments are sattvik, then at the mental level pleasant changes occur and are retained. For example, one becomes introspective. On the contrary, by wearing asuri (demonic) ornaments, specific chakras of the body and ultimately the organs are affected because of the negative vibrations emitted by them. Diseases concerning that organ occur due to this reason.

Subtle experiment about ornaments (two types of necklaces): Look at the two necklaces below for 15 seconds and note whether you feel good, distressed or nothing at all after looking at the pictures.

Answer: By looking at the necklace in the picture ‘A’, one experiences distress. By looking at the necklace in the picture ‘B’, one feels good. According to the principle of Spirituality, the ‘word, touch, form, taste, fragrance and the Divine Principle associated with them all coexist’. Thus there is the corresponding energy in the ornament. Distressing vibrations are experienced from demonic ornaments and good vibrations from sattvik ornaments. Thus the inference that can be drawn is that the necklace shown in picture ‘A’ is a demonic ornament. The necklace shown in picture ‘B’ is a sattvik ornament.

In Kaliyug the average person’s spiritual level is 20 percent and the level of the person who has attained Final-Liberation (Moksha) is 100 percent. Through sadhana, by attaining the spiritual level of more than 35 percent, one starts comprehending subtle vibrations. Only thereafter, is it possible for us to understand the difference between a demonic ornament and a sattvik ornament.

2.1 Caution to be observed at the time of purchasing ornaments

When we go to purchase ornaments, various types of ornaments are shown to us; but only a few of them are sattvik and others are demonic. An average person lacks the ability to identify sattvik and demonic ornaments. Hence, he mostly looks at the external beauty and selects demonic ornaments only. While selecting an ornament, pray faithfully to the form of God that you have intense faith in and pay attention to what you experience by looking at the ornaments as mentioned in the above experiment. Select only that ornament which gives good spiritual experiences.

Spiritual experience on wearing a demonic ornament: On looking at the ornaments in a shop I felt attracted to them. While purchasing the ornament I had the unexpressed feeling in my mind that ‘Upon wearing this ornament I should look beautiful and should attract attention’. After wearing the ornament, the sorcerer (mantrik) present in me manifested every time and easily attracted the attention of others. Every time I wore the ornament, I experienced distress such as heaviness in the head, stoppage of chanting, feeling restless and the mind becoming fickle and restless etc. – One Seeker

Spiritual experience on wearing a sattvik ornament: On 6th June 2007, for a Dharmasatsang presentation on ornaments, my photographs wearing various ornaments were taken. Before my photographs were taken I was experiencing a black covering around me. Due to this I was experiencing fatigue. I felt apprehensive about whether the photographs would turn out as required. At that time I had worn sattvik gold ornaments selected by H.H. Dr. Athavale. As I wore one sattvik ornament after the other, the black covering around me went on reducing and I felt light, enthusiastic and blissful. 2.2 Signs of attack on ornaments by sorcerers (mantriks)

Due to sattvikta of ornaments negative energies experience distress. That is why mantriks, that is, powerful negative energies attack ornaments itself to destroy the Chaitanya in it. After the attack by mantriks, the radiance (Tej) of ornaments is reduced. A black, purple or green shade is seen on the ornaments.

Mantriks store a large amount of black energy in ornaments and then frequencies of black energy are emitted from them with tremendous speed. Due to this reason, those who wear these ornaments, those who look at them and those who come in contact with them, experience distress. That is why the periodic purification of ornaments is necessary.

In the ornaments worn by the person afflicted with negative energies distress, the negative energies collect black energy to counteract the effect of the gold. The body parts on which the person has worn ornaments may start paining. If one experiences distress upon wearing ornaments, then purification should be done according to the severity of the distress.

The Five Cosmic Principles are Absolute Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. Amongst them, ornaments are purified by the Absolute Water, Fire, Air and Ether principles. Thus purification of ornaments should be done according to the ascending level of the Absolute Fire, Air and Ether principles.

3.1 Purification through Absolute Water principle (Apa-tattva)

Immerse silver and gold ornaments dipped in Ritha water (a root is powdered and soaked in water to be used for cleaning) for five minutes. After that, by rubbing them lightly, the dust and dirt deposited on them is removed and the ornaments become clean.

3.2 Purification through the Absolute Fire principle (Tej-tattva)

The purification tool related to the Absolute Fire principle is Holy ash of a sacrificial fire (Yadnya) or a sattvik incense stick. Apply Holy ash all over the ornament. This is purification of ornaments by the Fire principle.

Benefits of wearing the ornaments by applying Holy ash on them: By wearing ornaments after applying Holy ash, as long as its effect lasts, the black energy in the person’s body reduces to an even larger extent. Also the strength of negative energies distressing the person reduces with this. If the severity of distress is less then after sometime of applying Holy ash the ornaments can be washed with pure water and worn again. However, if the severity of distress is more then keep the Holy ash on the ornament for 15 days and then wash the ornament and use it.

Spiritual experience – After rubbing Holy ash on the anklet, reduction in the black energy in the ornament and reduction of pain in the legs: On 15th November 2007, while applying oil on the feet of a seeker, I thought, ‘Let me rub Holy Ash on her anklets’. 3.3 Purification through the Absolute Air principle (Vayu-tattva)

Blow Holy Ash on the ornaments or burn an incense stick and let its smoke touch the ornaments. The Holy ash mixes in the air and the smoke of incense stick merges with it. The purification of the ornaments done in this way is purification done through the Absolute Air principle.

3.4 Purification through the Absolute Ether principle (Akash-tattva)

The sky is a big void. A void is a symbol of the Nirgun-tattva. Due to this, the black energy in the ornaments reduce. An empty box is a miniature replication of the void in the sky. In this, the Ether principle is active. By keeping the ornaments in the empty box, they get purified due to the Absolute Ether principle. There is yet another tool to accomplish the Ether principle healing:

Playing the devotional songs of H.H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj near the ornaments: H.H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj is the inspiration of Sanatan Sanstha. These devotional songs (bhajans) are composed by H.H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj who is a Saint of a very high level. He has composed the music of the bhajans and has sung them Himself. That is why these devotional songs contain not only the Energy of word (Shabdashakti) in the words but also Energy of sound (Nadashakti) and Chaitanya that destroys the existing black energy in the ornaments.

The time period required for removing the negative energy from the affected ornaments after their removal: When ornaments affected with negative energy are removed and kept away for three months, the existing black energy in them reduces. After applying a layer of Holy Ash on the ornaments and keeping them for 15 days the black energy covering on them reduces. To take advantage of this, one has to keep the following things in mind:

  • If possible make 2 sets of ornaments and use them alternately.
  • If ornaments are going to be kept away for a long time then apply Holy ash before putting them away.
  • Hold the ornaments in the smoke of lit incense sticks after a certain time period.

    Sometimes old gold or silver ornaments are melted and new ornaments are made. At that time the metal is melted in the fire so in a way this helps to purify the metal.

    How do women benefit from wearing sattvik ornaments?


    1. Women’s ornaments

    Women’s ornaments are an invaluable gift that embellish their beauty and dignity, but some women feel that wearing ornaments amounts to being backward and old fashioned. Some women in the name of fashion wear ornaments, but they are not made as per spiritual science and therefore are not sattvik.

    2. Importance and benefit of wearing ornaments by women

    The benefits gained by children and men by wearing ornaments are also available to women, such as acupressure healing, increase in restraint etc. Women get some special benefits also. Hence, the ornaments hold extraordinary importance for women.

    2.1 Awakening of the raja-principle

    By wearing ornaments the raja-dominant functions of women get proper direction. Subtle effects on the woman and the environment due to the Absolute Fire Principle (Tej-tattva) in the ornament are:

    • Due to the Tej-tattva in the ornaments, the womanhood in women, that is, raja-principle is awakened.
    • Due to the awakened raja-principle, the Chetana (certain liveliness) is also awakened.
    • Due to this Chetana strength endowing frequencies for the task are emitted in the atmosphere.

    Thus the atmosphere becomes conducive for carrying out tasks with speed. For this reason, enthusiasm is generated in the vicinity of the woman wearing ornaments.

    2.2 Divinity in ornaments imparts dignity to the woman

    The woman functions only within the constraints of the radiance of the ornaments. The possibility of doing a wrong deed by her is reduced. The divinity in ornaments imparts dignity to the woman which takes her towards Divinity.

    2.3 Reduction in possibility of wanton behaviour

    Due to the ornaments to be worn by a married woman (soubhagyalankar), the possibility of wanton behaviour as per her wish is reduced. Soubhagya alankar means some special ornaments to be worn by a woman after marriage. Vermilion (kumkum), mangalasutra, bangles, toe rings etc. are the Soubhagya alankar of women. Being aware that she is wearing Soubhagya alankar she is always aware of the code of conduct of a married woman. The possibility of reckless behaviour on her part is less.

    2.4 Increase in activeness

    Due to an increase in raja-guna because of Soubhagya alankar the activeness of a married woman is awakened. The woman can therefore provide complete assistance in her husband’s activities.

    2.5 Protection from the lusty eyes of demonic energies

    The Kaliyug is conducive for wanton behaviour as per one’s wish and is unfavourable for spiritual practice (sadhana). In this yug, the sanctity of the married woman is supplemented by radiance in the form of ornaments. On the strength of the radiance, her chastity is also protected. Due to the protection provided by the ornaments, in a way, the woman is guarded from the lustful eyes of demonic energies.

    2.6 Awakening of the inherent Divinity present in the woman

    A. Due to ornaments, the Adimaya, Adishakti present in the woman’s body in the form of the Absolute Fire Principle (Tej-tattva) is manifested.

    B. Wearing ornaments as per spiritual science amounts to the worship of the Deity’s Energy (Shakti) form. A woman symbolises the unmanifest Shakti of the Deity. Wearing ornaments as per spiritual science amounts to the worship of that Shakti form. Through the use of ornaments, the Shakti in a woman manifests. Then imparting it’s benefits to others as well is the function of a woman.

    C. The woman bedecked with ornaments becomes a seat of awakening of Shakti worthy of worship. By looking at a woman bedecked with sattvik ornaments, a reverential attitude is generated in the mind of the onlooker. With this, the Shakti of the woman as also that of the onlooker is awakened. Hence, the woman bedecked with ornaments is a small seat of awakening of Shakti worthy of worship.

    2.7 Protection from the raja-tama dominant frequencies

    A woman is a form of Adishakti and is basically of a rajasik nature. As compared to men, a woman is more sensitive. So she is adversely affected by the raja-tama-dominant frequencies in the atmosphere much faster. Due to the movements of raja-tama-dominant frequencies, distressing energy is generated. The ornaments worn by the woman protect her from this energy. Hence, since ancient times, women have been protected by using ornaments.

    2.8 Countering attacks from specific negative energies

    Due to hyper-sensitivity, women are easily affected by both good and negative energies. With metals like gold and silver etc. used in the making of ornaments, the attacks of specific negative energies are countered and the women are protected from distressing frequencies.

    2.9 Preventing negative energies from entering into a woman’s body

    After wearing the ornaments, a protective covering of Chaitanya is generated around the respective parts of the body of the woman. Due to this, it is not possible for the negative energies to enter the woman’s body.

    2.10 Ornaments specifically designed for protection

    In Hindu Dharma, ornaments have been designed for the protection of womanhood and for the stability of her inherent Shakti Principle. Examples are as under:

    • By wearing the necklace around the neck, the Vishuddha-chakra is kept awakened.
    • With the touch of the voids in the small cups of the mangalasutra, the Anahat-chakra is kept awakened.
    • The Mekhala and girdle on the strength of Shakti Principle activates the region of the navel and waist.
    • The sound of anklets and the toe rings protects the woman from the distressing vibrations emanating from Hell.

    Through these examples Hindu Dharma‘s profound thought about ornaments and the body parts on which they should be worn becomes clear.

    3. The reason why the scriptures forbid widows from wearing ornaments

    When the husband is dead, the woman’s marital status is dissolved. Then the radiance present in the woman is also dissolved and in it’s place an attitude of detachment arises. Sacrificing ornaments facilitates the Shakti within the widow being converted into the fire of detachment.

    In earlier times women did spiritual practice (sadhana) in the form of the Absolute Fire Principle (Tej-tattva). So gradually the attitude of detachment was generated in them in the next stage of sadhana. In the present age there is a lack of sadhana. By sacrificing ornaments, an attitude of detachment is generated in the widow. Also by doing this, a need is generated that she should advance fast towards Final Liberation (Moksha) by doing sadhana.
